Dating sites are unfortunately one of the main places on the internet that is targeted by scammers and many dating sites are full of them. Many internet dating sites do not worry or remove scammers, because scammers tend to look good by using models photographs, they have nice profiles and these help to attract more members. At milesapart we are doing things differently and are constantly working to remove scammer accounts on a daily basis with numerous accounts being either flagged or suspended every day however, scammers are very good at what they do and some do get through to other members, at the moment.
You can help us and other members by reporting them to us; this is done by using the flag system found under the more button on every members profile page, this will highlight their profile to us so that we can deal with or remove them from site.
Current Scams
Most scams start with a simple click of your mouse, a simple mistake of going to an email address that has been sent to you by a person you do not know, as soon as you go there your information is no longer safe and that’s just the start. Your email address will now be on their data base and you can expect to be targeted.
The things scammers will use as an excuse to gain your trust and finally money and information can range from the simplest to most outrageous and include things like:
money for bus fare, gas or even flight tickets to travel to meet you. The scammer may exchange emails with you for days, weeks or much longer, talking on site or trying to lure you away to the email address they provide, then comes the day, the two of you decide to meet, it is then that the scammer tells you that they cannot afford it, but still offers to travel to meet you by plane, train, bus or car, this is when the requests for money to help pay start. If you give in and after you send the money, you will either never hear from them again, or you receive on going excuses to delay the trip whilst more requests for money just keep coming.
